Subject: Request for a meeting to discuss [Child's name]'s literacy progress

Dear [Class teacher / Headteacher],

I would like to arrange a short meeting to discuss [Child's name]'s literacy progress and what staged intervention is currently in place. I have been noticing a pattern of difficulties at home that I would like to share, along with the printable indicator checklist I have completed.

I am not asking for a diagnosis. I would like us to look together at what is working, what is not, and what the next step under the school's staged intervention framework would be.

Could we find a time in the next two weeks? Thank you.

Phrases that keep the conversation productive

  • "I'd like to look at this together — what are you seeing in class?"
  • "What is in place at staged intervention level 1, and what would level 2 look like?"
  • "How can we make sure my child's view is heard?"
  • "What would the next review point be, and what would we measure?"
  • "Could we trial [text-to-speech / DQP / a reader] as everyday practice, not just for assessment?"

After the meeting

  • Ask for the agreed actions in writing (a short email summary is fine).
  • Note the review date.
  • Keep a folder with the indicator checklist, the email summary, and any examples of work.
