About this tool
What this is
A free, browser-based indicator check for parents, carers, and teachers in Scotland. It mirrors the age bands of the Curriculum for Excellence and the identification pathway set out in the Addressing Dyslexia Toolkit.
What this is not
Not a diagnosis. Not an assessment. Not a substitute for the collaborative identification process that Scottish schools follow under the Additional Support for Learning (Scotland) Act 2004 and 2009 amendment.
Sources used
- Addressing Dyslexia Toolkit (Education Scotland).
- Dyslexia Scotland information sheets and helpline guidance.
- The Scottish Government 2009 working definition of dyslexia, agreed by the Scottish Government, Dyslexia Scotland, and the Cross Party Group on Dyslexia.
- Enquire for ASL rights and process guidance.
Editorial policy
- Indicators are paraphrased, not copied. Each item shows its source.
- Language is plain, non-deficit, and avoids labels such as struggling, fix, or behind.
- Every result links back to the matching Addressing Dyslexia Toolkit pathway.
- No advertising. No paid version. No upsell. No email gate. No tracking cookies.
- The check runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you tick is sent to a server.
- Released under CC BY 4.0 so any school, council, or charity may reuse it with attribution.
